Frequently Asked Questions

Gelato, not ice cream. What’s the difference?
The main differences are in fat content (ice cream 10-25%, gelato 5-8% as it uses mostly milk, not cream); air incorporation (gelato is churned slower which makes it denser & smoother) and serving temperature (gelato is served at -14 which enhances flavour and creates a silkier texture whereas ice cream is served colder which can numb the palate.)   It’s an entire science, but all you need to know is:  gelato is lower in fat and higher in flavour.  Win win!

Is your gelato made on the farm?
Yes! All BON & ROSE gelato is hand-made in small batches right here on the family farm in Hampshire using traditional methods and seasonal, local ingredients.

Do you use natural ingredients?
Absolutely — we only use real fruit, milk, and natural flavourings. No artificial colours, no fake flavours.  And definitely no bright green mint choc chip…

Is your gelato suitable for vegetarians?
Yes — all our flavours are vegetarian and egg-free.

Do you offer dairy-free or vegan gelato?
We do! We rotate a few dairy-free sorbets and plant-based options each season — check our current menu or ask us at The Yard.

Are there allergens in your gelato?
Some flavours may contain milk, nuts, gluten (we rarely use eggs).  Full allergen information is available at the point of sale or by request.

Why did you call it BON & ROSE?
The brand is named after the only girls in the latest generation of the family, Bonnie & Eliza, whose middle name is Rose – you might see them scooping on occasion!

How long does your gelato last in the freezer?
For best texture and taste, enjoy within 3 months of purchase. Always store at –18°C and let it sit for a few minutes before scooping to soften naturally.

Do your flavours change?
Yes — we work with the seasons and rotate limited editions regularly. Visit us at The Yard or follow us on Instagram to see what’s new: @bon.and.rose

Where exactly are you located?
You’ll find us at The Yard Hampshire, on our family farm. See here for details and directions.

Is there parking at The Yard?
Yes — there’s plenty of parking on site.

Can I visit the farm or watch gelato being made?
Our production space isn’t open for tours just yet — but we hope to offer workshops and tastings in the future! Sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know.
